Locate the ceiling joists by entering the attic space above from hall trap door and mark with small holes. Attempts to locate joists with detector from below have failed so far. Drill pilot hole in joist and screw in the pulley threads direct into joist as close as possible to existing hole positions in ceiling. Fill old holes with polyfiller. Assemble and test the existing ( but new ) clothes pulley. Note this is in home of an elderly lady with limited mobility so work will need to be carried out late afternoon or Saturday so another adult can be present to allow access.
